Mechanical engineering and plant engineering are about to undergo a process of profound change. Political framework conditions, increasing international competition and its associated price pressure, globalization and technical innovations are topics that concern and move the industry. Focusing solely on quality, time and price as success factors will no longer suffice in the future. The technological lead of European, and especially German companies is melting away. Across all segments, companies are confronted with new technologies, some of which come from outside the industry. This development will be driven by Industry 4.0, meaning the increasing digitization and integration of cyber-physical systems.
In order to operate successfully against the competition, additional assets will be needed. Job descriptions in mechanical engineering and plant construction are changing just as rapidly as the industry itself. The relevance of the classic "worker" for the value chain is declining. Instead, more and more special skills in the digital and IT sector are required (fingertip: Internet of Things).
The growing increase in customer requirements - in terms of standardization, modularization and customization - is another challenge for companies.
We are here to face the challenges of the industry together with our customers. As a longtime industry expert in mechanical engineering and plant engineering, we support you and stand by your side, using our expertise in innovation management, efficiency enhancement of production and logistics, price optimization, supply chain management and digital transformation.

Target costing and implementation of a generator stator concept for a new direct-drive 3 MW wind turbine.
THE CHALLENGE
The following main questions were asked: What is the technical and commercial cost optimum of the generator stator as the main cost driver of a new Direct Drive wind turbine? How can this cost optimum be determined and implemented sustainably within the Group?
POLARIXPARTNER was commissioned to determine the target costs for implementation in compliance with energy efficiency standards. The project was executed in two stages within five months, starting with the determination of potential and the subsequent implementation of the concept.
OUR APPROACH
OUR RESULTS
Target costing determination and target costing implementation of the new air-cycle air conditioning technology in high-speed trains for a European system supplier.
THE CHALLENGE
The main question was: What is the technical and commercial optimum cost of the new Air-Cycle Air Conditioning system? How can this optimum cost be determined and sustainably implemented?
POLARIXPARTNER determined and implemented target costs considering railway-specific safety standards. The project was divided into two stages: two months for the determination of potential and three months for the implementation.
OUR APPROACH
OUR RESULTS
Cost analysis of the turbine shaft of a Russian turbine manufacturer.
THE CHALLENGE
The costs of individual parts of a steam turbine should be analyzed and the economic potential identified and later implemented. POLARIXPARTNER generated sustainable DtC ideas during a nine-month project.
OUR APPROACH
OUR RESULTS
Benchmarking for the manufacturing and assembly of generator shafts.
THE CHALLENGE
POLARIXPARTNER defined best practices in rotor production and assembly. A cost plan was developed to determine transfer prices within the manufacturer’s network. Diverse design solutions were evaluated as part of the cost plan. The duration of the project was six months.
OUR APPROACH
OUR RESULTS
Design-to-value for the new generation of a mini excavator from a Korean construction equipment manufacturer.
THE CHALLENGE
Costs of the current series need to be optimized. The goal was an effective design-to-cost analysis of the new generation with the identification of ideas for standardization and modularization.
The project lasted 3 months and included a team of over 50 employees. It involved a purchasing volume of over 20 million dollars.
OUR APPROACH
OUR RESULTS
Target cost achievement in the early design phase through optimized design interpretation and supplier market analysis for a European system supplier.
THE CHALLENGE
The main questions were: How can the set cost target of a new product series for mobile air conditioning be achieved in the commercial vehicle sector? POLARIXPARTNER’s core tasks were the cost-optimized estimation of the overall system, the global supplier market analysis, as well as the selection and integration of the nominated suppliers. The project was implemented in two stages: the first four months were devoted to defining the most effective system design, while strategic suppliers were selected and target costs were implemented in the following three months.
